I've reffed soccer for years and the same holds true. You can ref soccer again and again but if you're not studying the laws or learning from other refs and paying attention to the nuances of the game then you won't improve as a soccer ref, even if you ref dozens and dozens of games per year. You will improve if you ref, study, ref, study, watch others ... it's a craft that's much like writing.
