Twitter is a good resource for networking with other writers, editors, and even book reviewers if you use the proper hashtags. It's not a great place for sales. You're so right that getting sucked into arguments is terrible and the spite is awful. So I put on the blinders as best I can and post for the #writingcommunity etc.
